PORTLAND, Maine — There was a large emergency response in the area of St. John Street and St. James Street in Portland Thursday afternoon, where a train was stopped on the railroad tracks.
The Amtrak passenger train was stopped in the area of 526 St. John St., according to a NEWS CENTER Maine photojournalist on scene. The train consisted of about three or four train cars behind the engine car. The train started moving again at around 3 p.m. Thursday.
One person was extricated from the scene, according to Portland Fire Division Chief Sean Donaghue. Our photojournalist saw an ambulance leave the scene.
There were several emergency vehicles responding to the area, including CSX vehicles. CSX is a supplier of rail-based freight transportation, according to its website.
