PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are investigating a deadly incident involving a train and pedestrian Tuesday night at Morrills Corner off Forest Avenue.
Police said they were dispatched to the area at about 8:13 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian being hit by a train.
Brett Staples, 34, of Portland was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, Portland police said Wednesday in an update.
NEWS CENTER Maine crews at the scene saw several police cruisers at the railroad crossing by Subway and Bruno's Restaurant & Tavern.
A spokesperson for Amtrak told NEWS CENTER Maine train 687 was traveling from Boston to Brunswick when a person "trespassing" on the track was hit. Approximately 26 passengers were on board at the time, and train officials said no passengers or crew members were injured.
Amtrak is working with Portland police to investigate the incident. As of Wednesday, police said no charges had been filed.
