School officials looking for information related to Maranacook school threat

The threat was found written in the girls' bathroom of the middle school Wednesday. The middle and high schools were closed Thursday.

READFIELD, Maine — Officials at Maranacook Area Schools are looking for information regarding a written threat. 

The threat was discovered Wednesday afternoon written in a girls' bathroom at Maranacook Community Middle School in Readfield, according to a letter to parents from Superintendent James Charette. 

Out of an abundance of caution, the middle and high schools in the district were closed Thursday. 

Now, the district officials are asking for help. It is asking parents to talk with their children, to see if they have any information related to the incident. 

"Any details they can provide may be crucial to helping us investigate and resolve this matter," Charette said in the letter.

Charette added that safety is their top priority. The district will provide additional security measures. It is also working with law enforcement to ensure the school is safe. 

"Please discuss this situation with your child and remind them to report any suspicious activity or information to a trusted adult right away," Charette said. 

Parents can report any information by calling 207-685-3128 and asking to speak with Principal Sirois, Assistant Principal Gosselin, or Kennebec County Sheriff's Office Dep. Nate Johnson.
