READFIELD, Maine — A "concerning incident" has prompted the closure of Maranacook Community Middle and High Schools in Readfield on Thursday.
According to an announcement from Maranacook Area Schools on Wednesday, a "concerning incident" was brought to the attention of staff Wednesday afternoon.
"We are taking this very seriously and are working with our School Resource Officer and the Kennebec Sheriff’s Department to fully investigate this matter," the announcement stated.
Maranacook Community Middle School will be closed on Thursday "out of an abundance of caution" for the safety of staff and students.
In a second announcement on Wednesday, Maranacook Area Schools said Maranacook Community High School will also be closed. All parent teacher conferences, practices, and meetings are canceled.
