HARRISON, Maine — A man is recovering in the hospital after he was shot during a standoff with law enforcement in Harrison on Wednesday.
Around 1:15 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Hawk Ridge Road after a call was received from a man who reported being armed and threatened to harm himself, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The man was identified as 57-year-old Arthur Lefebvre. Lefebvre was described as "uncooperative" and allegedly fired multiple rounds at law enforcement.
During the incident, officials reportedly learned family members were at the residence and at risk.
Communication efforts between law enforcement and Lefebvre were unsuccessful, and the sheriff's office said he left the home and confronted deputies with a firearm.
Three Cumberland County sheriff's deputies shot Lefebvre, and he was seriously injured, according to the sheriff's office. The deputies were identified as Det. Nathan Therriault, Det. Tyler Monsees, and Patrol Dep. Brandon Pelton in an update issued by the sheriff's office on Thursday.
Lefebvre was brought to Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. On Thursday, the sheriff's office said Lefebvre was still at Maine Medical Center in "serious but stable condition."
As is standard protocol, the Office of Attorney General will be investigating the sheriff's deputies' use of deadly force, and they have been placed on administrative leave.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
The incident generated a large emergency response that impacted several roads in the area.
As of approximately 9:30 p.m., Deer Hill Road had reopened after a fire official in Harrison said it was closed from Vacationland Road to the Waterford line earlier in the day.
