PORTLAND, Maine — A man was hit by an Amtrak passenger train in Portland Thursday afternoon and died Friday at Maine Medical Center due to severe injury, according to the Portland Police Department.
Portland police, Amtrak railroad police, and CSX Rail responded to the area of St. James Street near Gilman Electrical Supply at around 1:35 p.m. Thursday, police said. The train could be seen stopped on the tracks.
One person was extricated from the area, according to Portland Fire Division Chief Sean Donaghue. Police said a man was taken to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Portland police identified the man who died as 42-year-old Christopher Scott of Freeport.
A NEWS CENTER Maine photojournalist saw the train start moving again at around 3 p.m. Thursday.
Nobody is facing any charges related to the incident, police said.
