LEWISTON, Maine — Lewiston police responded to a call about a reported shooting Sunday night on Knox Street where they found property damaged by bullets and more than a dozen shell casings on the road when they arrived at the scene.
The incident happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the area of 54 Knox St., police said in a release Monday.
Nobody was struck by gunfire, according to officials, but they did find some property damage that appeared to have been caused by bullets.
Police said they attempted to speak with several potential witnesses who they believed to be on the street at the time of the shooting, but the potential witnesses reportedly did not cooperate.
No arrests were reported, and the police said the investigation remains active.
This marks the third reported shooting in Lewiston over the weekend.
A teenager was found dead Sunday night after police responded to a call about shots being fired in the area of Rideout Avenue. Police also said they were searching for a suspect in a shooting incident Saturday night at an apartment building on Blake Street.
Police have not indicated whether they believe any of the shootings are connected.
The Lewiston Police Department shared a statement on social media saying they are working with state and federal law enforcement partners to "[step] up the use of directed crime suppression patrols in response to these shootings that have occurred within these high crime areas" over the weekend. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.
