PORTLAND, Maine — 'Tis the season, right? Yes, snow season has begun and many of us will see accumulation tonight into Saturday morning.
A strong cold front will work in from the west late this morning. Low pressure will develop along with it and pass over the state this evening. As it approaches, temps will be mild enough so that most of us see rain showers through the day. But, as it passes, the atmospheric profile will cool, and rain showers will flip to snow showers Friday evening and night, even along the coast.
It's not a very strong snow signature for the coastline. The temps are relatively mild, the storm develops too late, and downsloping winds dry up the precipitation. But the interior and mountains, especially the ski resorts, highest elevations, and far north will see several inches by Saturday morning.
The storm will shift out of here Saturday and we'll see lots of cold sunshine over the weekend.

Even though the greatest accumulation will be in the mountains and far northern Maine, don't let your guard down. I expect a lot of us to see coatings or a couple of inches tonight and roads will get slushy and slippery later this evening so please drive safely.
