PORTLAND, Maine — Nicole made landfall in Florida yesterday and is now decaying over the Southeastern US. Nicole's remnants will spread north, up the spine of the Appalachians, late Friday afternoon and pass through Friday night and Saturday morning. Heavy rain will fall at times over New England, bringing the threat of temporary flooding.
The first drops will hold off until late Friday afternoon, spreading in from New Hampshire as the sun sets. Some of you in Southern Maine will have wet roads during your evening commute.
The rain will start light but quickly pick up after dinner. Downpours and rumbles of thunder will roam late in the evening, the wind will pick up too and get a bit gusty. It'll get ugly pretty quickly if you are out on the town.
The first round of heavy rain will move east of us overnight, and if you're up early enough on Saturday morning not much will be happening.
However, by mid-morning, a cold front will approach from the west and the next wave of windswept, heavy rain will pass through. Once again rumbles of thunder will be possible.
The rain will shut down early in the afternoon and most of us will get some sun. Temps will shoot up before the cold air bleeds in.
We may see some records fall Saturday afternoon too. The record in Portland is 65, set in 2020. The record in Bangor is 66, also set in 2020.
Have a good weekend.
