BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Brunswick woman says she's lucky to be alive after Saturday's storm caused a tree branch to go through her roof and into her living room.
"I could have died," Christina James told NEWS CENTER Maine. "I ran out the door with my dog."
James said she got in her car and drove to a nearby field where she spent the night to avoid being under any tall trees.
Until her home is repaired, James said she will live with her son.
"I'm in shock and scared to come back," she said. "When's the next time [a branch] is going to fall."
James lives at Bay Bridge Estates, a mobile home park in Brunswick. She said she's concerned about the trees around her home.
"It's awful scary," Eneeda Lacombe said about the trees around her home. "You're laying in your bed or you're sitting on your couch and these trees are cracking and falling over your house and around your yard."
Lacombe said it's common for branches to fall and damage homes in Bay Bridge Estates, but park owners haven't answered their calls to cut or trim the tall pines surrounding the homes.
"We can't afford to replace our homes like that," Lacombe added.
In a statement to NEWS CENTER Maine, Legacy Communities President Andrew Fells, who owns the mobile home park, said:
"Legacy Communities is deeply concerned about the welfare of Bay Bridge Estates residents after the recent snowstorm in the Brunswick area.
Maintenance staff were on site throughout the storm, and staff are working to assess the damage and begin the cleanup process. An arborist and an electrician will be on site on Tuesday to evaluate the trees and downed power lines.
We will continue to monitor the situation."
