PORTLAND, Maine — Officials with the city of Portland announced they would be opening a cooling center Thursday because of the high heat and dew points.
The Troubh Ice Arena at 225 Park St. in Portland is the first announced cooling center that opened Thursday.
According to the city's website, "The public is welcome to come inside and sit on the bleachers to cool off from the heat; masks are required."
The arena will be open from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday.
NEWS CENTER Maine meteorologist Todd Gutner said in his latest forecast, "It will be hot again today, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. A cold front rolls through in the evening and will spark some hit or miss storms. Most spots stay totally dry."
Dew points are expected to be in the high 70s today.
