Victims identified in Washington County logging truck collision

The occupants were traveling westbound when they collided with a loaded logging truck on a curved road, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Maine — Officials have publicly identified two people who died Wednesday when their vehicle collided with a loaded logging truck in Township 30.

Maine State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to Route 9 around 11 a.m. Wednesday and found two adults dead inside a 2014 Kia Forte. The occupants were traveling westbound when they collided with a loaded logging truck on a curved road, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release Wednesday.

In an update Thursday, Moss identified the two people who died as 35-year-old Tiffany Tinker and 36-year-old Jennifer Sutherland, both of New Brunswick, Canada.

Tinker was the driver and Sutherland was the passenger, according to Moss.

The driver of the log truck was not injured, officials said.

"The preliminary investigation shows that the deceased lost control of their vehicle coming around a corner and entered into the oncoming lane of the log truck," Moss said Thursday. "Roadway conditions appear to have been a factor in the crash."

There were two secondary crashes with other tractor-trailer that did not lead to any loss of life, Moss added.

The crash investigation remains ongoing.
