Washington County logging truck collision claims the lives of two people

The occupants were traveling westbound on Route 9 in Township 30 when they collided with a loaded logging truck on a curved road, officials say.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Maine — Two people traveling in a small sedan died in a crash on Route 9 in Township 30 Wednesday morning.

At approximately 11 a.m., Maine State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a multi-vehicle crash with a possible fatality, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they confirmed there were two deceased adults inside a small sedan. The occupants were traveling westbound on Route 9 in Township 30 when they collided with a loaded logging truck on a curved road, Moss said.

Moss said the names of the deceased are not being released until the family has been notified. The operator of the log truck was not injured.

According to the preliminary investigation, the deceased lost control of their vehicle driving around a corner and entered into the oncoming lane of the log truck. Roadway conditions do appear to be a factor, Moss said.

"There were two secondary crashes with other tractor trailers that did not contribute to any loss of life," according to Moss.

The crash is still under investigation.
