LINCOLN, Maine — Police have identified the people involved in a fatal crash that happened in Lincoln on Saturday.
The crash that occurred near the Route 6 and Buena Vista Drive intersection in Lincoln resulted in the death of 68-year-old Lawrence Leavitt of Lee, the Lincoln Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.
According to police, the crash involved a 1999 GMC pickup truck and a 2018 Ford Edge. Mark Theriault, 59, of Lincoln was operating the GMC, and Carol Marino, 76, also of Lincoln was operating the Ford.
Police arrived at the scene at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. An initial investigation into the crash revealed Theriault reportedly lost control of his pickup truck and crossed over the center line into Marino's path of travel, the release stated.
"The collision resulted in Marino's vehicle striking Theriault's on the passenger side," police said. "Leavitt, a passenger in Theriault's vehicle, tragically lost his life at the scene."
Theriault reportedly refused treatment at the scene, and Marino was taken to Penobscot Valley Hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
Lincoln police are working with Maine State Police and Bangor police to reconstruct the crash.
"As the investigation continues, authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, especially during this time of the year when black ice can pose significant hazards on the roads," police said Tuesday.
Lincoln Fire and Ambulance, the Maine Warden Service, and Lincoln Public Works also assisted at the scene.
