SCARBOROUGH, Maine — As snow swept across the state on Tuesday, crews responded to multiple crashes along the Maine Turnpike.
The Maine Turnpike Authority reported crashes in the Scarborough and Wells areas in the afternoon amid messy weather conditions. One of the crashes appears to involve two tractor-trailers blocking parts of the roadway in the Scarborough area, according to a NEWS CENTER Maine crew who was at the scene.
Just after 3 p.m., the Maine Turnpike Authority sent an alert stating a crash at mile 40 in Scarborough was blocking the southbound left lane and right shoulder. Delays are expected and travelers are urged to use caution.
Around 2 p.m., a crash occurred at mile 16.5 Wells, blocking the southbound left and center lanes, according to an alert from the Maine Turnpike Authority.
Speed limits were reduced to 45 mph Tuesday morning from the New Hampshire line to the end of the Turnpike at mile 109 due to snow.
A messy commute is expected well into Tuesday evening, according to NEWS CENTER Maine meteorologists.
