Caitlin Clark vs. Mackenzie Holmes | Iowa plays Indiana this week

Maine native Mackenzie Holmes, who is Indiana University women's basketball's all-time leading point scorer, will take on Caitlin Clark and the University of Iowa.

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana — Star power will collide in Bloomington, Indiana, next weekend as two of the nation's top women's basketball players are set to play against each other.

Iowa star Caitlin Clark on Thursday became the NCAA women's career scoring leader, surpassing the all-time record with a 35-foot 3-pointer. Last week, Gorham native Mackenzie Holmes became the all-time leading scorer in Indiana University women's basketball history. Next Thursday, Feb. 22, Iowa and Indiana go head-to-head.

As of Friday, Iowa (23-3) was ranked #4 in the country and Indiana (21-3) was ranked #14. Both teams are in the Big Ten conference and have a 12-2 in-conference record this season.

Holmes, a former Gorham High School star, led the Rams to two state championships and was named the 2019 Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. At Indiana, she was named Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year last season and was also named to multiple first team All-American lists in 2022-23.

Clark, an Iowa native, is one of the biggest stars NCAA basketball has ever seen. Nike released shirt designs celebrating her scoring accomplishment: the iconic Nike swoosh with "You break it, you own it" on the front and Clark's last name and No. 22 on the back.

Iowa vs. Indiana is set for 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22. The game will be aired on Peacock, according to the Hoosiers' website.
