GORHAM, Maine — Mackenzie Holmes became the all-time leading scorer in Indiana University women's basketball history Sunday during a win over Purdue.

Holmes scored on a layup in the fourth quarter during Sunday's game against Purdue to break the milestone previously held by Tyra Buss. Holmes' 17 points Sunday increased her career scoring mark to 2,364 points, according to Indiana women's basketball.

The Maine native is used to success on the basketball court. The former Gorham High School star led the Rams to two state championships and was named the 2019 Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. At Indiana, she was named Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year last season. Holmes was also named to multiple first team All-American lists in 2022-23.

"It's always been about the team for [Holmes], and on a day like today where she could get it in front of a crowd of a little over 13,000, that's really special and I'm sure something that she will always remember," head coach Teri Moren said after the game.

Holmes and the Hoosiers are one of the best teams in the country and have five more regular season games before the Big Ten tournament.
