Portland police say a man was hit by a train in Portland on Sunday afternoon. Police believe he was homeless and in his 50s.
Police responded to the scene just before 3:30 p.m. and located the man on the tracks behind 400 St. John St. They said he was dead and appeared to have been struck by a train.
According to police, a person walking on the railroad tracks found the man in the area near the I-295 overpass and immediately called 911. Several trains had passed through the area in a short period of time and officers from the Amtrak Police and the Railroad Police from Pan Am Railways are working to identify which train may have struck the man.
A final determination of cause and manner of death will be made by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
