CAMDEN, Maine — Although Halloween is right around the corner, one critter decided to get a head start on holiday festivities with a trick for Camden-area residents Sunday morning.
According to Jon Breed of Central Maine Power, a squirrel got into the Camden substation and knocked out power at approximately 10 a.m.
The power outage reportedly affected about 2,600 people in Camden and Rockport. Power was restored by about 12:30 p.m.
Breed said that while animal guards are used on utility poles to keep pesky critters from crawling on the lines, keeping them out of substations is a different challenge.
He said similar incidents tend to happen during this time of year.
