Maine state representative turns himself in to police

A warrant was issued for Lucas Lanigan's arrest, stemming from domestic violence charges related to an assault reported last Friday, police said.

ALFRED, Maine — Maine State Rep. Lucas Lanigan turned himself in to police at the York County Jail on Monday after a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Sanford Deputy Chief of Police Matthew Gagne told NEWS CENTER Maine the warrant stemmed from domestic violence charges related to an assault reported last Friday.

Police said the assault is still under investigation.

Lanigan holds a seat in the  Maine House of Representatives' 141st District, which includes parts of Shapleigh, Newfield, Sanford, and Springvale. He was elected into the House in 2022 and is seeking reelection on Nov. 5.

Police said no further information would be released at this time.
