Both teens in custody after escape from Long Creek on Friday

The 16-year-old juvenile was arrested in Massachusetts, and the 18-year-old from Portland was taken into custody in Biddeford.

AUGUSTA, Maine — Both teens who escaped Long Creek Youth Development Center last Friday have been taken into custody.

The 16-year-old was located in Massachusetts, the Maine Department of Corrections said Tuesday.

Police arrested the boy in Georgetown, Massachusetts, after a reported stolen vehicle crashed around 5:14 a.m., according to a news release from the Maine Department of Corrections.

Georgetown police notified the MDOC after identifying the boy, who was taken into custody without incident, according to the release.

An official with the Biddeford police department confirmed Tuesday afternoon with NEWS CENTER Maine that 18-year-old Davyn Flynn of Portland was also taken into custody.

Flynn was arrested in Biddeford shortly before noon.

Biddeford police Cpl. Jacob Wolterbeek told NEWS CENTER Maine their agency responded to a report about a hit-and-run crash in the area of Main and Emery streets in Biddeford around 11:15 a.m., in which the driver reportedly fled the scene. Wolterbeek said the vehicle was reported stolen out of Scarborough earlier in the day.

Flynn was located by police, though he provided officers with a false name initially, but after his identity was confirmed, he was taken into custody with charges out of both Biddeford and Scarborough. Police said he would be brought to Cumberland County Jail on behalf of those municipal summonses as well as the South Portland arrest warrant relating to the incidents Friday night relating to escape and alleged robbery.

Scarborough police shared a news release Tuesday afternoon stating that their agency was charging Flynn with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and burglary of a motor vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, and Maine law enforcement officials said they were working with agencies in New Hampshire and Massachusetts as part of the investigation.

MDOC also said it would continue to work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement.

The department said an update would be provided once more information became available.
