SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Law enforcement agencies continue to be on the lookout for two youths who escaped from Long Creek Youth Development Center on Friday night.
The two males, one adult and one juvenile, were incarcerated at the facility and escaped around 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Maine Department of Corrections. They were last seen later that night in Biddeford.
In an update Monday night, South Portland police identified one of the two suspects. Davyn Flynn, 18, of Portland was the only one named who was incarcerated at the youth detention center. The other suspect is a 16-year-old minor, and officials are not releasing his name at this time.
Due to confidentiality laws, descriptions and identities of the two suspects were not initially released. South Portland police said their names were entered into New England and national databases to alert officers to stop and hold the suspects if located, according to a news release. The MDOC has established a task force that is continuing to investigate the situation.
Shortly after the escape, South Portland police responded to a report of a strong-armed robbery with the threat of a firearm at a parking lot at 10 Liberty Lane, which is an apartment complex directly across the street from Long Creek.
Officials said no weapon was seen, but the two individuals reportedly fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.
Arrest warrants were issued for both suspects on robbery, criminal threatening, assault, and terrorizing charges as of approximately 6 p.m. Monday, South Portland police said.
Donna Swiderek told NEWS CENTER Maine she had been borrowing her ex-husband's car, a white Honda Civic hatchback. She said she was leaving the parking lot around 7 p.m. when two young males approached her.
She said the two individuals opened the car door and told her they had a gun and would shoot her. Then, she said one of them pulled her out of the car and threw her to the ground before both of them got in the car and took off.
Swiderek said South Portland police told her the car was stolen by the two suspects who had escaped from the facility. The car has since been located, according to South Portland police.
South Portland police warn the public to not approach the suspects and ask anyone with information about the incident to call them at 207-874-8575. The department will also post updates on its Facebook page.
