MAINE, USA — State offices will be closed Thursday due to an incoming storm.
Gov. Janet Mills Wednesday afternoon directed the offices to close for the storm, which is expected to include heavy snow, strong winds, and driving rain. Power outages are possible.
"I urge Maine people to take proper precautions," Mills said in a statement. "We recommend that you stay off the roads if you can, but if you must travel during the storm, be sure to give plow trucks, utility crews, and emergency first responders plenty of room as they work to keep us safe."
The National Weather Service issue a winter storm warning or winter weather advisory for all counties in the state. The heaviest snow, possibly more than a foot, is expected to the west in the Fryeburg, Bridgton, and Sebago areas. The coast is expected to get more mixed precipitation and the strongest winds, which could gust over 50 mph.
Many local government offices and schools will also be closed Thursday, and there are parking bans in many communities. Search a list of the latest closings and cancellations across Maine.
Mills said the Maine Emergency Management Agency is closely coordinating with the Maine Department of Transportation, the state’s electric utilities, and local emergency management organizations to monitor the effects of the storm.
