Fatal shooting in Poland ruled a homicide

The identity of the man who died was released, and state officials said the suspect in the fatal shooting is reportedly cooperating with law enforcement.

POLAND, Maine — State officials have released the identity of the person who was fatally shot Friday in the town of Poland.

Richard Tayman Jr., 51, of Oxford died from a single gunshot wound in what is now being considered a homicide, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Tuesday in a news release.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South and the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office responded to the shooting that happened around 8 p.m. at a home on White Oak Hill Road, state officials said Saturday in a news release.

A suspect has not been identified, but state officials said Tuesday that the person who they believe is responsible for the shooting is "cooperating with the investigation."

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges or arrests were reported as of Tuesday.
