WESTBROOK, Maine — A teenager in Westbrook faces several charges stemming from a report in late May from a juvenile who claimed they were "pistol-whipped" and robbed on Main Street.
Westbrook police said the juvenile reported the incident on May 28, alleging they were robbed and had been struck by a person holding a gun near the location of the former Cornelia Warren Outdoor Pool, which closed in 2020.
The department launched an investigation and were able to identify a suspect, Westbrook police said Sunday in a post on their Facebook page.
Several days later the community held its annual Westbrook Together Days event hosted by the Westbrook-Gorham Chamber of Commerce in the area of Riverbank Park. Events kicked off Friday, May 31, and were scheduled throughout the day Saturday, June 1.
Officers who were assigned to detail the event spotted the suspect on June 1 and "moved in quickly to arrest him without incident," officials said in the post.
The suspect, whose name is not being shared because he is a minor, was identified as a 17-year-old boy from Westbrook.
The boy was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and theft and brought to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, the state's only juvenile correctional facility.
Despite the initial report about the incident, no firearms charges were listed by police in the release.
