WESTBROOK, Maine — A 16-year-old from Westbrook is accused of breaking into vehicles and stealing a gun from one of those vehicles.
The teen has been charged theft and burglary of a motor vehicle, Westbrook police said in a social media post Wednesday.
Early Sunday morning, officers responded to Main Street for a report of burglarized vehicles, according to the post. Police soon detained multiple suspects and found a gun on the 16-year-old, who was eventually charged, adding they determined the firearm had been stolen from a vehicle on Main Street.
"We remind people of the importance of locking their motor vehicles, and of making sure their firearms are secured," police said in the post. "With the warm weather upon us, we ask for parents help as well in making sure they know where their children are at night."
Police did not disclose whether the teen was taken into custody or whether others are expected to be charged in connection with the investigation.
