Waterville death ruled a homicide, police search for suspect

The suspect and victim both worked at Damon's Beverage, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

WATERVILLE, Maine — The suspicious death of a Waterville woman has been ruled a homicide by Maine State Police, who are actively pursuing a suspect they believe fled the state on Thursday.

On Dec. 28, at 4:34 a.m., Waterville police responded to a call at Damon's Beverage, located on Jefferson Street, where they discovered the body of a deceased employee inside, according to a press release from Maine Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

Waterville police called in the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit for assistance, who sent the body to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy identified the person who died as Angela Bragg, 52, of Waterville, on Friday.

"The cause of death is sharp force injury, and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide," Moss said.

A warrant for murder has been issued for the arrest of suspect Spridal Hubiak, 20, of Waterville, also an employee at Damon's Beverage. Hubiak has not been taken into custody at this time.

Police said he fled the state yesterday and is operating a Black 2010 Ford Taurus bearing Maine plate 4666ZR. He may be armed and should not be approached, according to officials.

Law enforcement efforts to locate Hubiak continue and officials are asking anyone with information on his location to contact the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit at 207.624.7076 or the Waterville Police Department at 207.680.4700.
