Person of interest in Waterville death believed to have fled the state, police say

Maine State Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of 20-year-old Spridal Hubiak and said efforts to locate him are underway.

WATERVILLE, Maine — Maine State Police are searching for a person of interest in a death investigation in Waterville. 

On Dec. 28 at 4:34 a.m. the Waterville Police Department responded to a call on Jefferson Street at Damon's Beverage, where an employee was found dead inside, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called in for assistance on the case.

Thursday evening, investigators named 20-year-old Spridal Hubiak, of Waterville, an employee at Damon's Beverage, as a person of interest, according to the release. 

A warrant for murder has been issued for his arrest. 

Police said Hubiak is operating a black 2010 Ford Taurus, with Maine plates 4666ZR. Investigators believe he has left the state, but said efforts to locate him are underway. 

The body of the victim was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be conducted on Friday. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time. 

Officials ask that anyone who sees the person or vehicle not approach but rather call Maine State Police at 207-624-7076 or Waterville police at 207-680-4700.
