BIDDEFORD, Maine — Two people are facing murder charges in connection with the death of a man from Biddeford on Sept. 27.
Garret Labonte, 45, and Linda Lambert, 57, both of Biddeford, were arrested Monday at around 9 p.m. by Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South and the Biddeford Police Department, according to a press release issued Tuesday by Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Labonte and Lambert are accused of shooting and killing 46-year-old Gene Dares of Biddeford, Moss said.
Biddeford police responded to Foss Street at 10:53 p.m. on Sept. 27 for a 911 call reporting shots fired, Moss said at the time of the shooting. When first responders arrived on scene, they found Dares injured. Emergency responders attempted to render aid but he died at the scene, Moss said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta performed an autopsy. Dares' cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was ruled homicide.
Labonte and Lambert were arrested at 63 South Street in Biddeford Monday night without incident, Moss said.
Police charged Labonte with murder, felony murder, and robbery. Police charged Lambert with felony murder and robbery, according to the press release.
Labonte and Lambert are being held at the York County Jail. Lambert's initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday. Labonte's is scheduled for Thursday morning.
