Owls Head man accused of killing toddler in Thomaston

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner deemed 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson's death a homicide, ruling blunt force trauma as the child's cause of death.

THOMASTON, Maine — A man from Owls Head is expected to be charged with manslaughter in the death of a toddler in Thomaston.

Aziayh Scott, 23, was arrested in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday and taken to Orleans Parish Prison, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release Wednesday.

Moss said the process of extraditing Scott back to Maine to be charged with manslaughter has begun.

Thomaston police were called to Walmart around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, for a 22-month-old child who was not breathing. The baby was brought to Pen Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy on the toddler, whom officials have publicly identified as 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson, and deemed his death a homicide, ruling blunt force trauma as the child's cause of death, Moss said.

Scott, who is originally from Louisiana, had recently moved to Maine and was living with his girlfriend and the child in Owls Head, according to Moss. Detectives learned after going to the home in Owls Head on Tuesday, June 4, that the couple had returned to Louisiana.

After learning this information, Maine State Police detectives coordinated with Louisiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service Maine Violent Offender Task Force to arrest Scott in New Orleans on Wednesday morning, the release stated.
