Early Tuesday morning, South Portland Police, members of the Southern Maine Regional Special Response Team, and Old Orchard Beach Police executed a high-risk warrant service and arrested a man for suspicion of an armed robbery and home invasion that occurred Wednesday in South Portland.

Police arrested 41-year-old Tyrone Brown around 6:30 a.m. on Evergreen Avenue in Old Orchard Beach, according to a news release from the South Portland Police Department.

The night before Thanksgiving around 8:30 p.m., South Portland police reportedly drove to a Sawyer Street home after getting reports of an armed home invasion. Upon arrival, police learned there were two suspects, one armed with a firearm, who had entered the victim’s home demanding money, according to the release.

Officials said shots were fired inside the home, but no one was injured. The victim was able to escape and call for help. At that time, both suspects fled the scene on foot, the release stated.

While investigating to identify both suspects, law enforcement said they found reason to believe the Sawyer Street residence was not chosen at random.

At this time police have arrested Brown, obtained a search warrant for his residence on Evergreen Avenue, and have a possible identity of the other suspect, according to the release.

Brown was arrested on charges of robbery, Class A, burglary, Class A, aggravated reckless conduct, Class B, aggravated assault, Class B, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Class C.

Police said there was no struggle during Brown’s arrest and he was transported to the Cumberland County Jail where he is being held on $25,000 cash bail. He is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday morning, the release stated.
