PORTLAND, Maine — A man has been arrested and charged with murder in a Portland homicide investigation.
Abdirahman Mahmoud, 36, of Portland has been charged with murder in connection with a homicide in which another Portland man was fatally shot during an incident on St. John Street early Saturday morning.
Portland police responded to the area of 263 St. John St. early Saturday morning for a reported shooting, according to a news release from the Portland Police Department.
Raoul Mapendo Tshiyuka, 31, of Portland was brought to Maine Medical Center where he later died from a gunshot wound.
Tshiyuka's death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy performed by the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner, police said.
A vehicle believed to be tied to a suspect in the case was reportedly by the South Portland Police Department in a driveway at 77 Wainwright Circle East. A search warrant was executed by the Portland Special Reaction Team and the Southern Maine Regional SWAT team, according to the release.
After, a search warrant was executed by both teams at 66 Wellesley Estates, a Portland apartment complex located off Forest Avenue. During this time, the suspect contacted police and informed them of his location at 224 Ocean Ave. in Portland.
Mahmoud was arrested without incident and charged with murder, police said. He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail without bail.
