We've been talking about it the last several days, and we aren't talking about the new year. A wintry mix of rain and snow will move in after sunset, tonight and could hamper some New Year's Eve celebrations.
NEW YEAR'S EVE NIGHT: Precipitation is still on track to arrive in Southern Maine and New Hampshire around 9-10 PM. Snow inland, with some rain mixing right at the coastline. The rest of the state stays quiet for now.
THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT: Precipitation moves north and east. It'll stay mostly snow for inland locations through Western, Southern and parts of Central Maine. Northern and Eastern Maine will be quiet, although snow will quickly fill in an hour or two after midnight.
EARLY TUESDAY MORNING: As temperatures warm through early Tuesday morning, most of the snow will change back over to rain for much of Southern Maine. It'll still be all snow for Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western areas of the state.
TUESDAY AFTERNOON: Most of the precipitation is moving off to the northeast. There could still be a few lingering snow showers into Northern Maine. Otherwise, it'll be much quieter through New Year's Day afternoon. Winds will pick up. Gusts could approach 35-40 MPH at times.
**WINTER STORM WARNING in effect for Western and Northern Maine, until Tuesday afternoon, from The National Weather Service.
Have a safe and enjoyable evening! Happy new year!
