MAINE, USA — It's another day of high heat and humidity. Today will be hotter for most, especially in Midcoast and eastern Maine. The wind will have more of a westerly component, preventing much relief from the cooler Gulf of Maine ocean.
It was a very warm and stuffy night. Portland didn't drop below 78 degrees. Most of the state stayed in the 70s overnight as well.
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. It's in effect for more of the state today, as central and eastern Maine will be several degrees hotter than they were yesterday.
Combining the heat and high humidity, it will feel like it is between 95 and 100 degrees from late morning through the afternoon.
The heat index is the summertime equivalent of the wind chill. We don't talk about it very often around here -- but on exceptionally hot days like today, it can tell how hot it feels, when considering the humidity.
A cold front will be in the area today, and with it will come a few pop-up showers and storms.
There won't be very many storms, but the risk does exist anywhere at any time. So, if you see the clouds build and hear thunder, seek shelter and let the storm pass.
Behind the front, Tuesday will bring some relief with high temperatures in the mid 80s and mostly sunny skies. Humidity levels will drop substantially too.
