PORTLAND, Maine — The leaves are popping with maximum color statewide this week as the fall foliage season peaks in Maine. It will be a good week to keep up with clearing leaves off drains and trimming branches as we prepare for our next weekend soaker on the horizon.
I expect a large storm to cause travel issues and disrupt outdoor plans from Friday into Sunday. Let’s get into the details.
The storm will start on Friday night with showers at first and then periods of heavy rain take over into Saturday. Showers linger on Sunday with wind gusts near 50 on the front side of the storm and gusting to 25 mph+ on the backside.
There are still plenty of leaves on trees and that means a power outage threat exists.
Speaking of foliage, we are at or approaching peak conditions for the Pine Tree State with the coast expected to reach maximum color soon.
Getting back to the storm, the impacts will be rain and wind primarily.
As we get later into the week, I’ll pinpoint the exact rain amounts and wind gusts. For now, I expect rainfall amounts to exceed 1 inch and be as much as 3 inches in the heaviest bands.
That could be a problem considering the last several weeks of rain we’ve had.
