Very little rain has fallen this month and we are on pace for one of the driest Septembers on record. So far Portland has received only .17" and Bangor .89". While we aren't officially in a drought, the ground is abnormally dry and some wells have been running low.
A fairly juicy coldfront will march through this evening with a period of steady rain. It will only last a couple of hours but it may be briefly intense with some downpours and perhaps some rumbles of thunder.
Unfortunately, rain amounts won't be much more than a quarter of an inch. Not enough to drench our parched landscape but we'll take every drop we can get at this point.
Following the rain this evening, there isn't much expected through the weekend.
