MAINE, USA — As multiple systems met in Maine, it brought a lot of rain, high winds, and high surf on Saturday.
A mid-latitude cyclone from the west and tropical moisture from what was once Philipe met in Maine and drenched the state.
Showers started Saturday morning, but the bulk of the rain fell Saturday night into Sunday morning. Here's a look at some of the highest rain totals from Saturday night:
As this all moved through, it wasn't only the rain that was a factor. We had wind gusts of up to about 60 mph, which caused some issues. There was even a report of a tree across a road in Washington County. Here are some of the highest wind speeds from the system:
What affected many more were power outages. As of Sunday morning, a few thousand people were still without power.
We aren't completely out of the woods yet. Sunday is going to remain windy with gusts of up to 30 mph. While these gusts are still breezy and notable, they should not cause many or any more issues.
If you plan to take advantage of the sunshine on Sunday, be aware that conditions will be a bit intense on the ocean. There is a high surf advisory along the entire coastline in Maine. This means that swimming and surfing conditions are dangerous. The National Weather Service recommends that inexperienced swimmers stay out of the water. Seas are at eight to 13 feet with wind gusts on the water of up to 30 kts.
