PORTLAND, Maine — A cold front will sweep in from the west Friday afternoon, providing a trigger for thunderstorm development. The potency of these storms will be highly dependent on how much sunshine we end up seeing Friday afternoon.
Muggy air is flowing into Maine Friday morning, and the air feels way more humid. A line of showers will work through mid to late morning then pass off the coast near lunchtime. Early afternoon presents us with a window for sunshine. If we get a lot and temps rise close to 80, there will be ample instability for storms to get fierce on us with the risk for torrential rain, gusty wind, and hail.
If sun is limited and temps only manage the mid 70s, storms will be more manageable likely leading to just heavy rain and thunder.
Either way, the threat will subside around 7 p.m. Friday as the sun starts setting. Our weather team will alert you on all of our platforms if storms get dangerous.
