Slippery spots possible during Friday morning commute

Light rain will fall Friday morning in eastern and northern Maine and may freeze and create icy spots

PORTLAND, Maine — Temperatures have finally become more appropriate for mid November and we'll be quite cold Thursday night, dropping into the teens and lower 20s, significantly below the freezing mark.

A storm system out in the Atlantic Ocean will migrate back to the west toward Maine late Thursday night and Friday morning morning. The storm will throw some light rain at us over the next couple of days, which we need to help with the very dry conditions. However, some of that rain may be troublesome.

Early Friday morning, before we get a chance to warm up, some of that rain may freeze when it hits the ground or other surfaces like sidewalks, overpasses, decks, and porches. A thin glaze of ice may form creating slippery spots and some hazardous commuting conditions. Treatments may be necessary to avoid problems.

By mid to late morning, temperatures will warm above freezing and the ice threat will vanish.
