Saturday will be very mild with temperatures at the coast getting pretty close to record highs. We'll make it into the mid-50s at the coast and into the low 50s inland. The record high temperature in Portland is 54° set in 2017 and in Bangor it's 52° set in 1983. It'll stay cloudy through the day Saturday with a couple showers possible.
Things do a total 180 for Sunday, well, starting Saturday night. Winter Storm Watches (blue) and Warnings (pink) are in effect.
Sleet and freezing rain start in Greenville and Millinocket around 9 PM.
Cold air moves in and transitions many of us over to sleet and/or freezing rain. It still looks icy for most of Maine. By 1 a.m., Bangor and Waterville will likely be falling to near 32°.
Central Maine and the Downeast coast change to all frozen precipitation by early Sunday morning.
The coast gets close, but it's likely to warm there to see ice.
The Midcoast and southern Maine will be mainly rain since temperatures will still be mild, but everywhere else will likely get between a quarter and a half inch of ice. Obviously not ideal to drive on. Scattered power outages are possible too. The icy precipitation falls mainly in the morning and into the early afternoon.
By noon, it's wrapping up.
Once it's finished, it'll look something like this. Close to a foot of snow likely across Northern Maine, maybe even more.
