AUGUSTA, Maine — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for parts of Maine and New Hampshire on Friday, with heat index expected to approach 100 degrees.
The advisory was expected to remain in effect through the evening, out of concern that the hot temperatures and high humidity could cause people to be at higher risk of heat illness.
The National Weather Service advisory listed several recommendations, encouraging people to drink lots of fluids, stay cool in air conditioning, avoid lengthy time in the sun, and to check up on neighbors and relatives.
Several cooling centers were announced Friday afternoon on the Maine Emergency Management Agency website, which keeps an updated list of locations across the state for people to go if they need a place to cool down.
