PORTLAND, Maine — So much for an early spring. It looks as if the infamous groundhog has played the ultimate April Fool's joke with a spring nor'easter.
Mainers Thursday morning woke up to a massive storm consisting of heavy snow, rain, and strong winds that knocked out power to more than 300,000. It was not characteristic of the early spring predicted by Punxsutawney Phil.
While some folks inland and up the coast enjoyed playing in the snow with their pups and making snowmen, others experienced severe damage to their homes from falling trees. A resident in Wells shared photos of a tree that landed in their bedroom.
