Fourth of July weather report for Maine

From parades to fireworks to boating at camp, here's an in-depth look at the weather you can expect for the holiday.

MAINE, USA — After a rainy stretch during Fourth of July last year that forced several communities to reschedule or even cancel firework displays, this year we are in a really great spot for a stellar holiday week and weekend.

Here's an in-depth weather outlook for the holiday week this year.

Wednesday

The area of high pressure that has dominated the forecast for the first half of the week remains weakly in control Wednesday.

Slightly cloudier than Tuesday, but still mostly sunny. For most of us, temperatures will reach the mid-80s, but the coast will be cooler because of an afternoon sea breeze.

The humidity will be a bit higher than Monday or Tuesday, but it will still be comfortable. Winds will be out of the south around 5-15 MPH, with gusts up to 20.

An area of high pressure starts to wane Wednesday evening, which allows for a weak cold front to pass through. This front will bring a little bit of shower activity, but most of it will be overnight.

Thursday afternoon will feature plenty of sunshine again, with temps inland into the mid-80s once again, and the coast a bit cooler due to an afternoon sea breeze. The humidity will be noticeably higher and will make the air feel stickier than earlier this week. Winds out of the south primarily around 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 15 mph.

Friday

Friday will feature more sunshine and temps in the mid-80s, once again. The humidity will be quite high, and inland areas especially will be quite moist and uncomfortable.

A few scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and early evening, but most of us will remain dry. Winds out of the west around 5-10 mph.

Weekend

Saturday will be the wettest day of the week, with scattered showers around all day, and significantly cloudier. Not a washout, but likely the worst day for outdoor activities. It will be cooler, too, high temps only in the 70s. Winds out of the southwest 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

We bounce back quickly and nicely for Sunday, though. Plenty of sunshine, hot with temps in the upper 80s, and humid once again. Winds out of the west 5-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
