MAINE, USA — From Florida to North Carolina, people are just beginning to survey the destruction left behind from Hurricane Helene. For many hard-hit areas, it will take months, maybe even years, to recover.
Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on Sept. 26 as a category 4 storm. Now, about two weeks later, people in and around Tampa have evacuated, and are bracing for the worst of Hurricane Milton.
Milton is expected to make landfall as a major hurricane in the overnight hours Wednesday.
A lot of people in Maine are wondering how they can help people down south who have a long road ahead of them. Many Mainers have loved ones or friends who have been directly impacted by the storms. Others may not have any connections, but just want to help. It's the Maine way.
NEWS CENTER Maine is partnering with the American Red Cross to collect donations for those impacted by Helene and now Milton.
