WHITEFIELD, Maine — Those who love a hearty Maine winter have certainly been cheated in 2024.
Jennifer Pierpan of Whitefield sent NEWS CENTER Maine a couple of photos to show the difference in snowfall this year compared to 2011. The first photo was taken on Feb. 27, 2011, and the second is from Tuesday.
Pierpan said she took the picture today after a Facebook memory popped up from 13 years ago.
"What a difference! Another disappointing winter for those of us who love this season," Pierpan said. "A winter like this impacts the sheer joy of snow falling, winds howling and the fields and woods painted a winter landscape that delights the eye."

- In 2011, Portland, south of Whitefield, reported 27 inches of snowfall between Feb. 1 and Feb. 27
- In 2024, Portland had only 0.6 inches of snowfall between Feb. 1 and Feb. 27

For those holding out hope, I'm sorry to report you will not be building a snowman or snowshoeing through the woods this weekend, as temperatures could reach the 50s according to NEWS CENTER Maine's meteorologists.
Pierpont said she has accepted this winter was a dud, but is hopeful for 2025.
"Here's to a VERY snowy winter.....next year!" Pierpont said.
