This is the third stormy Tuesday in a row, and this one is making a mess. As expected, there's an incredible battle between rain and snow occurring near the coast.
With heavy precipitation falling due to strong lift and healthy dynamics, I don't expect the rain / snow line to budge much through the middle of the morning. Once the precip intensity lets up, mild air will begin to penetrate inland and there may some rain as far north as Lewiston, Augusta and Bangor as this thing is winding down this afternoon.
It's going to be really fun to plot and see the snow amounts when this is said and done. I suspect that numbers will rise quite a bit over a short distance not too far inland. The mountains and foothills will top a foot in spots!
While it's mostly rain along the coast, I do expect problems with the high tide early this afternoon. Tides are running extra high right now due to the recent full moon. Strong east winds and large waves will push a two foot storm surge into the coast. Flooding will occur in the typical spots and beach erosion is expected too.
