(NEWS CENTER Maine) — The earth shook slightly again early Wednesday morning in the sixth earthquake that has rattled the area over the past week.
The United States Geological Survey reported a minor 1.6 magnitude earthquake near Freedom, New Hampshire.
The fifth earthquake was centered near Harrison at 1:54 a.m. Wednesday. People in the area reported to NEWS CENTER Maine they felt shaking overnight.
United States Geological Survey confirms a fifth earthquake had a 2.3 magnitude, with a depth of 2.8 miles.
Other recent earthquakes include a 2.6 in Dresden and two minor aftershocks Wednesday, January 24.
Another minor earthquake, a 1.7, occurred near Fairfield at 1:24 a.m. Friday, January 19.
There was also a 1.6 magnitude in Kenduskeag and a 1.8 in Richmond.
According to the USGS, since July, Maine has had 20 earthquakes with a magnitude of .5 or greater, 30 percent of those quakes happened in the past week.
