PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland International Jetport remains open and flights are continuing to operate Thursday following a mass shooting event in Lewiston Wednesday night.
Portland police and the Department of Homeland Security have increased patrols at the airport out of an abundance of caution, according to a release from assistant airport director Zachary Sundquist.
"Passengers under a shelter in place order or who are not comfortable leaving their home should contact their airline to rebook to later flights," Sundquist said.
In a press conference Thursday morning, Gov. Janet Mills and Maine State Police said 18 people were killed and 13 people were injured in the shootings.
Lewiston police said in a Facebook post they are attempting to locate 40-year-old Robert Card, of Bowdoin, as a suspect. He is considered to be armed and dangerous, according to police, and members of the public are advised to not approach him or make any contact.
A shelter-in-place has been issued for Androscoggin County and the town of Bowdoin, which is in Sagadahoc County.
