PORTLAND, Maine — Amtrak Northeast announced that it will be modifying the Northern Corridor train schedule in Virginia this summer due to a heat order.

Passengers can expect delays from 5-20 minutes between May and August, which could occur frequently, the company stated in a social media post on Tuesday.

The heat orders are just for Virginia services, according to Amtrak officials.

"CSX, the owner and maintainer of the tracks, issues heat orders notifying Amtrak that the maximum speed of passenger trains are reduced with high temperatures and temperature fluctuations," the post stated.

To compensate for heat order delays Amtrak said departure times of Northeast Corridor trains have been adjusted.
