HAMPDEN, Maine — 63-year-old Thomas Merchant of Hancock died after crashing his car near mile marker 176 on the southbound side of I-95 in Hampden Saturday afternoon.
According to a release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, Merchant crashed into median guard rails and his car continued to travel another 300 feet before stopping.
Maine State Police Troopers found Merchant dead in his car around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The release states the investigation found weather and speed were factors in the fatal crash. The incident remains under investigation.
